The Ranches Academy, a small school of 350 students, has one of the highest 2010 Adequate Yearly Progress results for a charter school in Utah.
"We got our AYP results back and it was phenomenal," said Susie Scherer, The Ranches Academy director. "I have to check with every school but so far there is only one other charter that beat us."
In her second year as director, Scherer said she had made a commitment to raise the school's AYP rating. The AYP is part of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (also known as No Child Left Behind) requiring proficiency testing to track each school's ability to educate its students.-Daily Herald

Eagle Mtn. to get new elementary school
"Eagle Mountain, UT, January 23 – The Alpine School District school board approved funding for two new elementary schools, one in Traverse Mountain and the other in Eagle Mountain. Opening Fall 2010, the new elementary school in Eagle Mountain will be located Southwest of Overland Trails Subdivision in City Center. The district owns the property and will begin design and engineering plans in the next weeks. With growing numbers of elementary children in the city the new school will be a great asset to the community. It will also allow for a more manageable number of students at Eagle Valley Elementary School, the only elementary school in city center, which currently has over 1,000 students.
“We appreciate that Alpine School District recognizes our needs and that they continue to provide educational resources for our community,” said Mayor Heather Jackson." - Eagle Mountain City

Eagle Mtn. School Back After Virus Outbreak
"The Ranches elementary school in Eagle Mountain called off last Friday so the 50 or so students could get over the Norovirus sickness that broke out last week.
Monday was the first day of school but officials and school staff are still wary of the highly contagious disease spreading again. They are asking that any of the children who were sick to stay out of school for 24 hours after symptoms have passed." -myfoxutah.com

Walk to New Eagle Mountain School Unsafe?
Some parents in Eagle Mountain are complaining that the walk required getting to the new school built on Pony Express is unsafe.
According to one parent from an article appearing on KSL.com says that there is only two ways to get to the new school.
One way is to take a dirt path that leads to a big ravine that often floods in the Spring and fills up with snow in the Winter.
The other way is along Pony Express. There is reportedly an electric fence along this trail that has some parents worried.
My take is, teach your kids not to touch the fence. Second, it's probably not going to kill them if they do touch it.
Also, if the walk is so bad, give your kids a ride to school.

Alpine School District Not Fond of Eagle Mountain

Alpine school district would love to cut Eagle Mountain out of the school district.
Their reasoning? Too many kids and not enough money out there. So why should they send all the district funds to Eagle Mountain.
What do you think about this?
